Prachanda Returns Home from Visit to Italy

Kathmandu: After a visit to Italy, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has returned home this morning. The Prime Minister led a Nepali delegation to attend the 'Food System Summit +2,' organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Rome, Italy.

The visit, which took place from July 22, was aimed at discussing crucial matters related to agriculture, climate change, and adaptation capacity for the Least Developed Countries (LDCs).

During the 'Food System Summit,' PM Prachanda emphasized the importance of boosting investments in agriculture to tackle the challenges posed by climate change and other hazards. His insightful address focused on strengthening the LDCs' capacity to adapt and cope with the evolving global food system.

Additionally, the Prime Minister also participated in the 'United Nations Food Systems-2023 Stocktaking Moment,' where he showcased Nepal's ongoing mid-day meal program's effectiveness. He highlighted how the program has positively impacted the health and overall educational improvement of students in the country.

Throughout his stay in Italy, PM Prachanda held significant meetings with several notable figures, including the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, and the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Gutterres. These meetings likely revolved around strengthening bilateral ties and discussing critical regional and global issues.

Moreover, the Prime Minister engaged in discussions with key officials such as Cindy Mccan, the Executive Director of the World Food Programme (WFP), Qu Dongyu, the Director-General of FAO, and Alvaro Lario, the President of the International Fund for Agriculture Development.

As a gesture of appreciation and connectivity with the Nepali diaspora, PM Dahal attended a reception hosted by the Non-Resident Nepali Association in Italy.

Furthermore, PM Prachanda made time for meaningful interactions with members of the Nepali Progressive Forum chapters in various European countries, including Italy, Belgium, Spain, Croatia, Portugal, Austria, and Ireland. These discussions likely aimed at addressing the concerns and aspirations of the Nepali community living abroad.

The delegation accompanying the Prime Minister during the visit comprised his personal secretary and daughter, Ganga Dahal, Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Dr. Beduram Bhusal, National Planning Commission Member, Dr. Jayakant Raut, high-ranking government officials, security personnel, and other delegates.
